TAKE ACTION NOW - I want you to go post on your personal Facebook page:
"Hey guys! Just wanted fill you in on what I'm up to. I'm starting a new business doing ___ and I need your help.
What questions do you have about learning to create an online business in your spare time? [insert your business]
Is this something you've ever thought about doing?"
I want you to get the conversation about your business. Even if just your close friends and family answer and comment back,, that's okay. We need to know what people are thinking and this simple Facebook post will help you do that.
This will start conversations that will reveal what problems people really have and then you can help solve them.
So when I ask, "What questions do you have about starting an online business in your spare time?"
- I want to start a business, but I don't have an idea
- I don't know how to build websites. All that coding is too complicated
This was extremely valuable information. I kept hearing this over and over so I made sure to address those issues in the marketing of this course and make sure that you knew that inside the course you'd find the solutions to those objections:
- That I will help you come up with your idea
- You don't have to know anything about websites. There's no coding, and I'll walk you step by step through the process of creating your own beautiful site with no experience.
So don't delay! Go post that on FB then come back and finish the course!
You've done a great job this far!
Keep it up. Keep going, don't let anything hold you back or keep you from starting.
I'm going to keep driving my point home: Start fast!
You have to get your business launched fast so you can tweak, adjust, or pivot it as needed. The faster you do that, the faster you can get your company making sales and bringing in dollars.
I want you to remove all "barriers of entry." This means if there is something that is keeping you stuck for days or even hours, move on.
Don't spend a lot of time on all the details, they'll work themselves out eventually. Even when it comes to picking the name of your company (gasp!) - It doesn't have to be perfect. Nothing is set in stone yet. You can change it.
But if you don't pick a name, then you won't buy your domain name, then you won't start your website, then you won't bless the world with your business, then you won't have the lifestyle you want...you get my point.
We get hung up on things that traffic jam the whole process and next thing you know, it's this time next year and you aren't any closer to your dream or your goals.
Just see this as your "beta" version. You are launching BEFORE you're ready. But you know you have to get it out there so you can find the bugs and speedbumps and then you can begin to perfect your business.
The fast you do that, the faster you make money.
So just launch already!
I believe in you. You got this!
One question I get quite often is, "How much time should I expect to put into my business? How do I balance my day job, spending time with my family, and working on my side business?
All I can do here is give you my personal opinion and tell you what worked for me.
I won't call these rules, I'll call these "guard rails" that I believe you should put in place that will keep you on track to your ultimate goal.
I built my business while having a full time day job, a wife, (and now a kid) and being VERY active at my church. (Often there 3-5 times a week)
As you enter this new and exciting season of life I want you to remember my NUMBER ONE guard rail:
Don't skip out on church. No matter how much you have on your plate, always remember it is the Lord who blesses you. Your number one priority in life and business is to honor Him and live for Him. Keep Him first - always.
Guard rail #2: Do not work seven days a week. Work 6 days a week. Not to get too deep on you, but that's why God made the sabbath for us. It's for our benefit. Our bodies were created to work six days a week and rest one. (That's scriptural!) I know you'll be tempted to want to work seven days a week because you're excited. It's a feeling I still fight often! But take one day off. Your productivity will skyrocket the next day and stay high for the rest of the week. It doesn't have to be Sunday, but make sure you take one day a week off.
Guard rail #3: Hang with the fam. Don't neglect the family time. It's very important. We are only here on earth one time, so make sure you give them the attention they deserve.
I know what you're thinking: "Trav, how do I do that AND start a new business? My schedule is already crazy packed?!"
Which leads us to...
Guard rail #4: You will have to sleep a little less. Not forever, just during this season. If you're "not a morning person" - become one. (See the Bonus section on how to do this)
I personally get up around 4:30am every day. I spend some time praying and then I spend some time in the word. When my spirit man feels satisfied, THEN I go to work on my businesses. So even when I had a day job, I had at least 2 hours of time working on my side business each morning.
Don't tell me you can't do it. If you want it bad enough you can go do it. IF you don't want it bad enough, then just be honest with yourself.
After you get home from work, spend time with the family. Eat dinner with them. Play with the kids, then when they go to bed, spend an hour with your spouse, then spend an hour working on your business.
Get up a little early and spend at LEAST an hour each morning before working on your business.
Guard rail #5: Podcasts non-stop: When you're driving to work, on your lunch break, and when you drive home from work, be listening to podcasts that teach you what to work on. Always be learning about online marketing, ecommerce tactics, email strategy, how to drive traffic to your site etc. That way when you get home to work in the evenings you'll know what to do. Your commute time is not idle time, I used to look forward to my commute just so I could listen and learn more!
No more idle time for you. You are in "go mode." You're getting after it, it's time to take new ground and build something great for you and your family, and ultimately that honors God.
Ask God for wisdom on how to structure your day. I know there has been times where I just felt in my spirit that I needed to get out of the office and go hang out with my family. So I did. I wanted to work, but I knew that I TRULY needed to spend time with them.
Be led in all you do. Be a great steward of your time, work hard AND work smart.
Just remember this isn't forever, it's for a season.
In this video I want to show you a valuable lesson that I learned a few years ago.
I took an online course that cost me $2,000. I don't remember much of what I learned except for this one concept I'm about to teach you. By implementing this concept it has MORE than covered the 2k cost of the course I learned this from.
Over the years this has made me probably tens of thousands of dollars.
Let me show you what I mean:
When it comes to our online drop shipping businesses, there are a few strategies we can implement in order to maximize our profits per sale.
If we're able to increase our income even a little bit per sale, then over time, this can mean a lot to your bottom line.
Today I'm going to hit on four simple strategies that you can implement quickly to your dropship business and hopefully gain a little bit of extra revenue this month.
- Provide an "after sale" coupon code that brings people back to your site quickly. The best way to do this would be after a customer makes a purchase, they get a confirmation email that their order was received. In that email, you would thank them for their purchase and then add something along the lines of, "Thank you so much for your order. Here is a 10% coupon that you can use in the next 7 days on any of our xyz products." Or if you have another site you'd like to cross-promote: "This coupon code is also good on our sister sites: here and here."
- Promote info guides and ebooks as an affiliate. Using sites like Clickbank.com you can become an affiliate for all kinds of info products in all kinds of niches. In this scenario, if you were to sell, let's say animal traps, you could upsell them an ebook that teaches you the best type of bait to use in your traps, or the best techniques on how to set your traps successfully. (There are ebooks on everything - don't worry) Implementing this could add a few extra bucks to your income and provide a great value and service to your customers as well.
- Upsell Add-Ons. This would of course be products that complement your core offer. Does your product have a carrying case available? AFTER the customer orders your main product, give them the option to add on the carrying case for an extra $25. If you sell leather bags, you could upsell some leather conditioning oil for $8...Be creative, make sure you add value and it's something that makes your core product better when this is added to it.
- Upsell Intangibles. This would include upselling to "same day shipping" for an extra $15. Or perhaps overnight shipping. You could also provide a 6 month part replacement warranty, or an extended 1 year warranty for an extra $47. (Contact your supplier to see how they handle this. Almost all of them provide something to this effect.)
Those are just 4 quick ways you can add to your current revenue stream.
Now keep in mind, the goal here isn't to "squeeze" more money out of people in a sleazy way. I'm talking about adding things that truly bring more value to your products and offers.
These are things that will make your buyer say, "Oh, good, yes I'll be traveling with this a lot, the carrying case is perfect. It's only $25, I'll just add that on now." Or "Perfect, I'm needing it fast, let me select one day shipping." And, "This is my first time setting up an animal trap for my new pest removal service. I'll grab this ebook guide that shows me exactly what to do."
Do you see how this works?
Add value, add profits.
Now go put this to work on your drop shipping site!
If you are strapped for time, a great tool you can use in the creation and launch of your business is Fiverr.com
This is a marketplace of professional freelancers who will help you create what you need for your website or business in the price range of just $5. (You'll be shocked at the great quality you can find out there for such a low price)
You can find almost ANYTHING you could imagine on there:
- Logo design (definitely use this!)
- Facebook cover photos
- Ebook/Kindle book cover design
- Picture editing
- Facebook/Instagram posting
- Help setting up your website
- Writing sales copy for your sales pages, product descriptions, or emails
- Writing articles and blog posts
This is a great tool if you don't have a lot of time, but have a little bit of room in your budget.
I HIGHLY recommend hiring someone from Fiverr to do your logo. Do some research, look at their past reviews and portfolio. But I have had some beautiful logos designed from there. And most will do revisions until you're happy. Then if you need some photos edited to look more professional check that out next.
I like the thought of learning how to "outsource" these items early on because one day you'll be so busy and prosperous you'll HAVE to outsource this work to a team!
Cruise around there on Fiverr and see what all there is to offer. This is a valuable resource that can help achieve great results even faster.
I want you to take a look at your debts that you pay monthly on:
- Credit cards
- Car payments
- Student loans
- Medical bills
Now pick the one with the LOWEST monthly payment.
That monthly payment amount is going to be your FIRST revenue goal for your drop shipping business.
For example, let's say your lowest monthly debt payment is your student loan at $100 a month.
Your goal is now simple:
Create a drop shipping website that profits you $100 a month and automatically pays your student loan payment.
Essentially eradicating that monthly payment for you each month.
If you become laser focused on that one, simple, easily-attainable goal, you will get it.
$100 a month is not hard in the online world.
Think about it like this, you find a product with 50% profit margins. Then all you have to do to reach your goal is:
- Sell ONE $200 item per month
- Sell two $100 items per month
- Sell five $40 items per month
- Sell ten $20 items per month
Once you hit that mark, let's up the goal to include your next monthly bill, and then up it again, until next thing you know - BOOM.
It's time to escape your day job!
It's totally doable.
Make that commitment deep down inside that you are not going to stop until you reach your goals.
That's exactly what I did six years ago when I started my first drop shipping site. I didn't hang out, I didn't watch TV, I didn't kick my feet up and take it easy...
I got determined I was going to figure this "online business thing" out, and then I went for it at 100 mph until I got it. And that's what you need to do. At least at first.
I've given you a profitable system to follow, and you have myself and the entire Escape Your Day Job Community at your back to help you if you get stuck.
There's no excuses. You CAN do this. Now let's get after it together.
Feeling motivated yet? What are your going to do about it?
